Kato Zakro
Kato Zakros is an impressive little traditional fishing village, hidden away in the southeast corner of Crete. The beautiful tamarisk-fringed pebble beach hosts several excellent fish taverns where visitors can sample local delicacies in attractive surroundings. The area is also home to a Minoan Palace, which is one of the most significant archaeological sites on the island. Walkers may want to explore the
valley of the dead, a gorge which connects the main village Zakros with the beach settlement Kato Zakros. At the end of the gorge are some caves where the Minoans buried their deceased.
In the surroundings of Zakros is Xerokampos with its white sandy beaches, the town of Sitia and the palm beach of Vai.
